Today's Beef:
Don't you just hate it when you run into rude or nasty people? This is one of my biggest pet
peeves. This column is dedicated to all of us in the service industry that have to deal with nastiness and general public
"unfriendliness".
It doesn't bother me that you may not want to talk to me, nor I too you, but the civil way
of ending any conversation, or should I say the polite way, is to let the other person know that you'd rather end the conversation
with a congenial "goodbye" rather than Bold "Mr. Click".
"Mr. Click" should be used for automated pre-programmed voice messages left on your answering
machine/service, not "real people". "Mr. Click" should only be used on rare occassions where the break down of communication
is so vile or ugly that you have no other choice. In cases of general disagreement of opinion or mistaken identity or
bothersome solicitations - a nice "I'm sorry but I can't talk right now" will suffice.
All of this rudeness and crudeness in society has taken it's toll on the American psyche.
Have we forgotten the shoe on the other foot. Or has the foot been lost too? Does it take much effort for people (not
just men, women included) to open the door when entering a building, or picking up an item that belongs to another that fell
at our feet? Has the effect of a smile or the pleasant tone of your voice become null and void in a world gone hostile?
I hope not.
Taking all this desolation into consideration is it not so apparent that we live in a "me"
society that is propagating "me" centered individuals who will one day have to take care of "our" lives. So, therefore
let us take action now-before "we" become obsolete.
